Rick Gates, a senior official of President Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016, admitted to performing crimes during testimony on the stand at Paul Manafort’s trial on Monday.
Gates was asked if he had conducted “criminal activity” or had “committed crimes” with Trump’s former campaign manager, and Gates said “yes” to both questions.
Prosecutor: “Were you involved in any criminal activity with Mr. Manafort?”
Prosecutor: “Did you commit any crimes with Mr. Manafort?”
This is the first time a senior member of Trump’s campaign has confessed to a crime on the stand.
Gates is Mueller’s star witness against Manafort. He reached a plea deal in order to avoid being prosecuted himself.
