Republicans Tell Supreme Court Justices To Quit Now Before Elections So Trump Can Flip Court

If you needed any more evidence that the Republican Party is planning on a brutal mid-term election cycle, i.e. meaning Democrats will take back control of the Senate and House, here it is.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley is sounding the alarm by telling all 9 of the current U.S. Supreme Court Justices that if they plan on retiring to do so now, so that they would have a better chance of installing a conservative justice while Republicans still hold power.

“So my message to any one of the 9 Supreme Court justices, if you’re thinking about quitting this year, do it yesterday,” Grassley said while appearing on Hugh Hewitt‘s radio program Thursday.

Grassley made the comment after it was discussed that Justice Anthony Kennedy was rumored to be announcing his retirement soon.

“I just hope that if there is going to be a nominee, I hope it’s now or within two or three weeks, because we’ve got to get this done before the election” Grassley said.

Grassley stressed that it usually takes around 50 to 70 days from the time the president makes his nomination until the Judiciary holds a hearing. He said that if Kennedy or someone else decides to retire that “this has to be done before the November election.” He is talking as if the Republicans are sure to lose.

What’s problematic about this reasoning is that during President Obama’s last year in office, the Republican Party stated that one of the main reasons they refused to hold a hearing for nominee Merrick Garland was because it was during an election season and voters had the right to choose who they put in office. This goes in direct contrast to that.

Keep in mind – retirement rumors are swirling because the Supreme Court will be ending cases for the year next month in June.

Kennedy isn’t the only one rumored to retire. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is slated to be next in line. In all, its speculated that a total of 4 Justices could retire during Trump’s first four-year term. Grassley just wants to make sure that happens before Democrats take back the Congress.
