“Enough is enough,” says President Obama
The President released a statement after Friday’s mass shooting and called for gun control once more, after a gunman opened fire in a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colo. which killed three, including one police officer, and injured five police officers and four civilians.
President Obama said in a statement today:
“We don’t yet know what this particular gunman’s so-called motive was for shooting twelve people, or for terrorizing an entire community, when he opened fire with an assault weapon and took hostages at a Planned Parenthood center in Colorado. What we do know is that he killed a cop in the line of duty, along with two of the citizens that police officer was trying to protect. We know that law enforcement saved lives, as so many of them do every day, all across America. And we know that more Americans and their families had fear forced upon them.
“This is not normal. We can’t let it become normal. If we truly care about this — if we’re going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience — then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough.”
After the mass shooting in Roseburg, Oreg. the President said he was considering executive action to implement gun control since the Republican-controlled Congress refuses to act to try to curb this particular brand of terrorism and violence.
In October, President Obama told HBO’s Bill Simmons he was considering executive action for gun control:
“There are maybe a few more that had to be scrubbed by lawyers because essentially, with every executive action, we can count on it being challenged by somebody in Congress or, in this case, the NRA. We want to make any executive action we take as defensible as possible legally.
“In the absence of a movement politically in which people say, ‘Enough is enough,’ we’re going to continue to see, unfortunately, these tragedies take place. The main thing that I’ve been trying to communicate over the last several of these horrific episodes is that, contrary to popular belief, Americans are not more violent than people in other developed countries. But they have more deadly weapons to act out their rage, and that’s the only main variable that you see between the U.S. and these other countries.”
Meanwhile, the spuds of the conservative news industry are already blaming Obama for the shooting at Planned Parenthood, before the investigation has even been wrapped up. Fox News contributor and former NYPD cop, Bo Dietl jumped on the tragedy saying:
“Again, this is our president acting like a fool. I mean to see something like this, we noticed when the attacks occurred in Paris, when the cops were in their car getting attacked, we have to prepare ourselves. This is a war. We’re against… terrorists are against this country.”
Conservative speak translation? Thanks, Obama.
Similarly, conservatives have been grateful for the shooter for saving the lives of babies that doctors were supposedly aborting (facepalm); others have tried to make it about a bank robbery. To be clear, no motive has been established, yet.
