Special Counsel Robert Mueller does not want to be accused of unduly affecting the midterm elections on Tuesday, so it’s said that he’s waiting patiently until after them to release the results of his investigation.
Per Vanity Fair, and Trump advisors, it’s also said that they’re worried about Trump Jr. and his exposure for allegedly committing perjury in front of Congress.
Trump Jr. told the Senate Intelligence Committee that his father didn’t know beforehand about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, a meeting that was orchestrated to dig up dirt on Hillary Clinton.
“I’m very worried about Don Jr.,” said an ex-West Wing official.
Even if Mueller doesn’t directly charge the president, going after Trump Jr. for such a statement would directly involve President and cast him as a liar for denying the accusation to the public repeatedly.
While he could release the results of his investigation to the Justice Department as early as Wednesday, it’s likely he could wait until later in the month until election fever has set in.
Besides Trump Jr., sources told Vanity Fair that Roger Stone is also at risk.
Alan Futerfas, Trump Jr.’s lawyer, has so far declined to comment on the story.
