BREAKING: Trump Violates UN Charter, Jerusalem Move Null And Void

President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and decision to move the U.S. Embassy to the holy city is null and void. His action violated the international legitimacy resolutions and the UN Charter, according to the government of Jordan.

The UN Charter clearly stipulated that the status of Jerusalem must be decided through negotiations and all unilateral actions aimed at imposing new facts on the ground are deemed null and void.

In a statement, State Minister for Media Affairs and Government, Mohammad al-Momani, said, Jordan rejects Trump’s decision which fuels tension, anger, and inflames the passions of Muslims and Christians. It also preempts the outcome of final status negotiations.

The Jordanian government emphasized that Jerusalem is a final status issue. It must be resolved within the framework of a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to the Jordanian government, recognizing East Jerusalem as capital of Israel is the only way to achieve security, stability, and peace for Israel and Palestine, which is in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

Furthermore, the Jordanian government pointed out that any country’s recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel has no legal impact in changing its status as an occupied land. The UN General Assembly, Security Council, and the International Court of Justice ruled that Jerusalem is an occupied land in its decision on the issue of the separation wall.

Minister Momani said, Trump’s recognition is “legally invalid” citing the fact that the UN Security Council resolution no 478 doesn’t recognize the Israeli Basic Law on Jerusalem. The resolution also called countries to close their embassies in the holy city.

Widespread condemnation against Trump

Jordan is not that only country condemning Trump’s decision. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke against the U.S. President’s action and warned that he was “throwing the region into a ring of fire.”

UN Secretary General on Jerusalem Issue

British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron opposes Trump’s announcement. Macron said the decision violates international law and UN Security Council resolutions. Germany’s Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel denounces Trump and stated that they no longer recognize the U.S. as a superpower.

EU’s top diplomat Federica Mogherini said Trump’s action could potentially “send us backwards to even darker times than the ones we are already living in.”

UN Secretary General António Guterres refuted Trump and emphasized that there is no alternative to the two-state solution for Jerusalem. There is no plan b on the issue. He said the only wat to resolve the conflict is through negotiations.
