Special Counsel Robert Mueller has just cut a plea deal with the family member of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who is facing two indictments according to Reuters.
As part of the plea deal, Manfort’s son-in-law and former business partner Jeffrey Yohai will be expected to provide damaging information and be expected to fully cooperate with other criminal probes in Mueller’s Russia probe, two people with knowledge of the matter said.
This is how it will work: Manafort will get pressure from below, and will thereby be forced to flip on Trump in order to save his own hide. Many people with inside information are expecting Manafort to do exactly that – the heat of going to jail will be just too much, especially considering Manafort’s age. It would be a death sentence.
Currently, Manafort is facing charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud and has so far pleaded not guilty. His trial will commence unless Mueller decides to drop the charges in return for a plea deal of his own.
Mueller cut the deal with Yohai earlier in the year but it is just now being reported for the first time.
His agreement had him pleading guilty to misusing construction loan funds and another count related to a bank account overdraft.
This is still a developing story.
